Job Description

Basotho Poultry is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Farm Technician to join our dynamic team in Thetsane, Maseru. Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily feeding and watering of poultry, ensuring adherence to established schedules and dietary requirements.
- Monitor the health and welfare of poultry, identifying and reporting any signs of illness, injury, or distress to farm management.
- Clean and sanitize poultry houses, equipment, and other farm facilities regularly to maintain hygienic conditions.
- Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment, including feeders, waterers, ventilation systems, and basic farm vehicles.
- Assist with the vaccination, weighing, and transfer of birds as required by the farm's production cycle.
- Keep accurate and detailed records of feed consumption, mortality rates, egg production (if applicable), and other relevant farm data.
- Implement and adhere to all biosecurity measures and health and safety protocols to prevent disease outbreaks and ensure a safe working environment.
- Conduct routine checks and minor repairs on farm infrastructure, ensuring all systems are functioning optimally.
- Assist with waste management and general upkeep of the farm premises.
- Support the farm management team in various tasks as needed to ensure smooth and efficient farm operations.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 1 year) in a farm setting, preferably with poultry or livestock.
- Basic knowledge of animal husbandry and welfare practices.
- Ability to operate and perform basic maintenance on farm machinery and equipment.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail for monitoring animal health and behavior.
- Good physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
- Basic record-keeping and data entry skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic.
- Understanding of health and safety regulations in an agricultural environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Agriculture, Animal Production, or a related field.
- Experience with specific poultry management software or record-keeping systems.
- Valid driver's license (Code B or higher).
- First Aid certification.
