Job Description

Lesotho Flour Mills is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Farm Technician to join our team in Mantsonyane, Thaba-Tseka. Key Responsibilities
- Execute daily farm operations including land preparation, planting, irrigation, fertilization, and harvesting of crops.
- Operate and maintain a variety of farm machinery and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order and reporting any malfunctions.
- Monitor crop health, identifying and addressing issues such as pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies promptly.
- Implement pest and weed control strategies using appropriate methods and materials, adhering to safety guidelines.
- Manage irrigation systems, ensuring efficient water usage and proper hydration for crops.
- Maintain accurate records of farm activities, including planting schedules, yield data, input usage, and equipment maintenance.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
- Assist with post-harvest handling, storage, and preparation of produce for transport.
- Collaborate with farm management and other team members to achieve production targets and objectives.
- Participate in training and development programs to enhance agricultural knowledge and skills.
Required Skills
- Proven practical experience in crop farming and agricultural operations.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining farm machinery and equipment (e.g., tractors, planters, sprayers).
- Basic knowledge of crop science, soil management, and plant nutrition.
- Ability to identify common crop pests, diseases, and weeds.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Excellent physical stamina and ability to perform strenuous tasks in various weather conditions.
- Basic literacy and numeracy for record-keeping and measurements.
- Commitment to safety protocols and environmental stewardship.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Certificate or Diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, or a related field.
- Previous experience working with specific crops relevant to the Mantsonyane region (e.g., maize, wheat, vegetables).
- Valid driver's license with experience operating farm vehicles or heavy machinery.
- First aid certification is a plus.
