Job Description

The Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWC) is seeking a diligent Farmhand to join our team in Menoaneng, Mokhotlong. In this vital role, you will be instrumental in the day-to-day operations of our agricultural and land maintenance activities, ensuring the health and productivity of designated areas. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general farm duties including planting, cultivating, harvesting, and irrigating crops.
  • Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment safely and efficiently (e.g., tractors, tillers, pumps).
  • Assist with livestock care, including feeding, watering, and monitoring animal health, if applicable to site.
  • Carry out manual labor tasks such as weeding, digging, fencing, and general site clean-up.
  • Monitor crop health, identify pests or diseases, and report findings to the farm supervisor.
  • Maintain irrigation systems, ensuring efficient water use and optimal crop growth.
  • Participate in the construction and repair of farm structures, fences, and pathways.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of land for cultivation and soil enrichment practices.
  • Contribute to team efforts by demonstrating a positive attitude and willingness to support colleagues.

Required Skills

  • Proven physical stamina and ability to perform strenuous outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Basic understanding of farming practices, crop cycles, and land management.
  • Ability to operate basic farm tools and machinery (e.g., hoes, shovels, wheelbarrows).
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Basic communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of practical experience in a farm or agricultural setting.
