Job Description
Are you passionate about marine life and eager to contribute to meaningful conservation efforts in one of the world’s most beautiful marine environments? &Beyond Mnemba Island is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Field Survey Helper – Entry Level to join our dynamic conservation team. This is a unique opportunity for individuals with a keen interest in marine biology, environmental science, or conservation to gain hands-on experience in a stunning, protected area. As a Field Survey Helper, you will play a crucial role in assisting our marine conservationists with various field activities, primarily focused on data collection and monitoring of the Mnemba Atoll’s vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine species. No prior professional experience is required, as comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided. You will work closely with experienced professionals, learning valuable techniques in marine survey methodologies, species identification, and data management. This role demands a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in an outdoor, marine-focused environment. Key Responsibilities
- Assist marine conservationists in daily field activities, including snorkel/dive surveys and beach patrols.
- Help with the preparation, maintenance, and cleaning of field equipment (e.g., dive gear, cameras, transect lines).
- Participate in the collection of marine data, accurately recording observations under supervision.
- Aid in basic data entry and organization as instructed by the team leader.
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines during marine and terrestrial field operations.
- Contribute to general conservation tasks such as beach clean-ups and environmental awareness activities.
- Maintain a positive and collaborative attitude within the conservation team and with other lodge staff.
- Learn and adhere to sustainable practices and conservation principles promoted by &Beyond.
Required Skills
- Strong passion for marine conservation and environmental protection.
- Ability to swim comfortably and confidently in open water.
- Physical fitness and ability to endure extended periods in the sun and water.

Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic understanding or interest in marine biology or ecology.
- Previous experience with snorkeling or diving (PADI Open Water Diver certification or equivalent is a plus, but not required).
- Proficiency in Swahili and English.
- Experience living or working in a remote, island environment.
