Job Description
Are you a detail-oriented, analytical, and highly organized finance professional passionate about making a difference? Amref Health Africa is seeking a dedicated and experienced Finance Officer to join our dynamic team in Kilifi, Kilifi County. This crucial role involves overseeing the financial management of our projects and operations within the region, ensuring compliance with both organizational policies and donor requirements. The Finance Officer will be instrumental in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing comprehensive financial reports, managing budgets, and facilitating internal and external audits. You will work closely with program teams to provide financial guidance, monitor expenditures, and ensure the efficient allocation of resources to maximize our impact on community health. Key Responsibilities
- Manage all financial transactions and records for projects and operations in Kilifi County.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, statements, and budget vs. actual analyses for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure strict compliance with Amref Health Africa's financial policies, procedures, and donor regulations.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, and monitor expenditure against approved budgets.
- Oversee cash flow management, including petty cash and bank reconciliations.
- Facilitate internal and external audits, providing all necessary documentation and explanations.
- Manage payroll processing and ensure timely disbursement of salaries and other employee benefits.
- Provide financial advice and support to program managers and other team members.
- Maintain a robust filing system for all financial documents, both physical and electronic.
- Participate in grant proposal development, providing financial inputs and budget justifications.
- Identify and recommend improvements to financial systems and processes to enhance efficiency and control.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) or equivalent professional qualification.
- Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in financial management, preferably in the non-profit or development sector.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, QuickBooks, SAGE) and advanced MS Excel skills.
- Thorough understanding of financial principles, accounting standards (e.g., IFRS), and donor compliance regulations.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural team.
- High level of integrity, ethical conduct, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Experience with donor-funded projects (e.g., USAID, EU, Global Fund).
- Familiarity with the local financial regulations and tax laws in Kenya.
- Experience working in Kilifi County or coastal region of Kenya.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
