Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Financial Analyst with a specialization in Investment Research to join our dynamic team in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. As a Financial Analyst in Investment Research, you will be an integral part of our investment team, providing rigorous analysis and insightful research that underpins our investment recommendations and portfolio management decisions. Your core responsibilities will include conducting in-depth qualitative and quantitative analysis of various asset classes, industries, and individual companies. You will be instrumental in developing and maintaining sophisticated financial models, performing valuation analyses, and assessing market trends and economic indicators that could impact investment performance. The role demands strong analytical capabilities, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to synthesize complex data into clear, concise, and actionable investment reports and presentations. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis of companies, industries, and macroeconomic trends to identify investment opportunities and risks.
  • Develop, maintain, and update detailed financial models, including discounted cash flow (DCF), comparable company analysis, and precedent transactions.
  • Prepare comprehensive investment research reports, presentations, and memos for internal stakeholders, portfolio managers, and client-facing teams.
  • Monitor existing investment portfolios and provide regular performance updates, rebalancing recommendations, and risk assessments.
  • Stay abreast of global financial markets, economic developments, regulatory changes, and industry-specific news that may impact investment decisions.
  • Assist in the due diligence process for potential investments, including data gathering, analysis, and summarizing key findings.
  • Present research findings and investment recommendations clearly and concisely to senior management and investment committees.
  • Collaborate with portfolio managers to refine investment strategies and ensure research aligns with portfolio objectives.
  • Utilize various financial databases and research tools (e.g., Bloomberg, Refinitiv Eikon) to gather and interpret data.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related quantitative field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in financial analysis, investment research, or a related role within the financial services industry.
  • Proven ability to conduct in-depth financial modeling and valuation (DCF, multiples, sum-of-parts).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, financial functions).
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial concepts clearly.
  • Solid understanding of investment principles, capital markets, and various financial instruments.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Progress towards or completion of the CFA designation.
  • Postgraduate degree (e.g., Master's in Finance, MBA).
  • Experience with financial data terminals such as Bloomberg or Refinitiv Eikon.
  • Knowledge of programming languages like Python for data analysis is a plus.
  • Experience in a wealth management or asset management environment.
