Job Description
Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Full-Time Fire Inspector to join a vital public safety team in Salinas, California. This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated professional to play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our community through diligent enforcement of fire and life safety codes.
As a Fire Inspector, you will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections of new and existing buildings, commercial properties, and residential structures to ensure compliance with a wide array of fire prevention laws, ordinances, and standards, including the California Fire Code and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. Your work will directly contribute to preventing fires, minimizing hazards, and protecting lives and property across Salinas.
This role involves comprehensive plan review for new construction, remodels, and tenant improvements, ensuring that all proposed designs meet stringent fire safety requirements before construction begins. You will also be instrumental in responding to public inquiries, providing expert advice on fire safety practices, and educating property owners and occupants on compliance matters. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, excellent communication skills, and an unwavering commitment to public service. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive fire and life safety inspections of commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential properties.
- Perform plan reviews for new construction, remodels, and tenant improvements to ensure compliance with applicable fire codes, ordinances, and standards.
- Identify and document fire hazards, code violations, and ensure timely corrective actions are taken.
- Issue notices of violation, citations, and stop-work orders as necessary, maintaining detailed records.
- Provide expert consultation and technical assistance to property owners, developers, architects, and the general public regarding fire safety regulations.
- Assist in fire investigations by identifying potential causes and contributing factors related to fire code violations.
- Develop and deliver public education programs and presentations on fire prevention and safety.
- Maintain accurate and thorough inspection records, reports, and documentation using digital systems.
- Stay current with changes and updates to local, state, and national fire codes, standards, and best practices.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Fire Inspector or in a related fire prevention role.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the California Fire Code, NFPA standards, and other relevant building and safety codes.
- Proficiency in conducting detailed inspections and identifying fire hazards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and public interaction.
- Ability to interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and construction documents.
- Valid California Driver's License.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various environmental conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- ICC Fire Inspector I and/or Fire Inspector II certification.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Experience with GIS, permit tracking software, or other relevant technology platforms.
- Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is a plus, given the diverse community of Salinas.
