Job Description
Fidelity Services Group is seeking highly motivated, physically fit, and dedicated individuals to join our Emergency Response Team as Firefighters in Durbanville, Western Cape. This is a critical, shift-based role designed for individuals who thrive under pressure and are committed to protecting life, property, and the environment. As a Firefighter, you will be on the front lines, responding swiftly to various emergency situations, including structural fires, veld fires, motor vehicle accidents, hazardous material incidents, and other rescue operations within our operational areas. Your responsibilities will extend beyond active incident response to include prevention, preparedness, and community engagement. You will be expected to maintain a high level of physical fitness, continuously update your knowledge of firefighting techniques and safety protocols, and operate a wide range of specialized equipment. Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly and safely to all fire and emergency calls, including structural fires, wildland fires, medical emergencies, and hazardous material incidents.
- Operate and maintain a variety of firefighting and rescue apparatus, tools, and equipment safely and effectively.
- Perform search and rescue operations, administer first aid and CPR, and assist with patient stabilization and transport as required.
- Conduct regular inspections of assigned equipment, vehicles, and fire stations to ensure operational readiness and compliance with safety standards.
- Participate actively in continuous training programs, drills, and simulations to enhance firefighting skills, physical fitness, and knowledge of emergency procedures.
- Educate the public on fire safety, prevention techniques, and emergency preparedness through community outreach initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, equipment maintenance, and training activities.
- Adhere strictly to all organizational policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Work collaboratively as part of a team, communicating effectively under pressure and supporting colleagues during high-stress situations.
- Perform routine station duties, including cleaning, maintenance, and administrative tasks, to ensure a functional and safe working environment.
Required Skills
- Valid Firefighter I and II certification (or equivalent)
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification (Level 3 or equivalent)
- Minimum 1 year of active firefighting experience (volunteer or professional)
- Valid Code 08 (B) driver's license with PRDP (Professional Driving Permit)
- Excellent physical fitness and ability to pass a rigorous physical assessment
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure
- Exceptional teamwork and communication abilities
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to protocols
- Clean criminal record
Preferred Qualifications
- HAZMAT Awareness/Operations certification
- Advanced driving certificate
- EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) certification
- Experience with specialized rescue techniques (e.g., high-angle rescue, confined space rescue)
- Bilingualism (English and Afrikaans)
