Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly and efficiently to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous material incidents, and other calls for service.
  • Operate and maintain firefighting apparatus, equipment, and tools effectively and safely.
  • Perform search and rescue operations, administer first aid, and provide medical assistance as required.
  • Participate in ongoing training exercises, drills, and educational programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Conduct fire prevention inspections, public education programs, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Maintain fire station premises, equipment, and apparatus in a state of readiness and cleanliness.
  • Adhere strictly to departmental policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Work effectively as part of a team, demonstrating strong communication and collaboration skills under pressure.

Required Skills

  • Valid Class 3 Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement (or equivalent and willingness to obtain).
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter I & II Certification.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Level C Certification.
  • Strong physical fitness and ability to pass rigorous physical aptitude testing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
  • Proven commitment to public safety and community service.
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Paramedic or advanced medical training (e.g., EMR, PCP, ACP).
  • Additional certifications such as NFPA 472 (Hazardous Materials Operations) or NFPA 1006 (Technical Rescue).
  • Experience in a related emergency services field (e.g., EMS, security, military).
  • Post-secondary education in Fire Science, Emergency Management, or a related discipline.
