Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Firewall Engineer to join our growing cybersecurity team in Dalry, Edinburgh. As a Firewall Engineer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our network systems. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle management of our firewall solutions, from initial deployment and configuration to ongoing monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization. Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, configure, and manage firewall rules, policies, and VPNs on various platforms (e.g., Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, Check Point).
- Monitor firewall performance and logs, analyze traffic patterns, and identify potential security threats or anomalies.
- Perform regular security audits and assessments to ensure compliance with company policies and industry best practices.
- Respond to and resolve firewall-related incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventative measures.
- Collaborate with other IT and security teams to ensure seamless integration of security solutions and efficient incident response.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for firewall configurations, procedures, and security policies.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and firewall technologies, recommending and implementing necessary upgrades or patches.
- Provide expert guidance and support on network security matters to internal stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with firewall administration and network security.
- Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting enterprise-grade firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, Check Point).
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), VLANs, and VPN technologies (IPSec, SSL VPN).
- Familiarity with network security concepts such as IDS/IPS, NAC, SIEM, and vulnerability management.
- Experience with network troubleshooting tools and techniques.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
- Relevant industry certifications such as PCNSE, Fortinet NSE4/NSE7, CCSA/CCSE, CCNP Security, or CISSP.
- Experience with cloud security platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid cloud environments.
- Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation.
- Experience with automation and orchestration tools for security operations.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, ISO 27001).
