Career.zycto is seeking an experienced Fleet Manager to take the helm of our vehicle maintenance and staff scheduling operations in Cornhill, Aberdeen. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full lifecycle of the company fleet, including acquisition, maintenance, repair, and disposal, ensuring optimal performance and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive preventative maintenance schedules to minimise downtime, extend vehicle lifespan, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Oversee all vehicle repairs, negotiating with external vendors and workshops to ensure cost-effective, high-quality service and timely return to operation.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as fuel consumption, vehicle utilisation, driver behaviour, and maintenance costs, identifying and implementing areas for continuous improvement and efficiency gains.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all local and national transportation laws, health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
  • Manage and optimise complex staff scheduling for various operational teams, considering individual skills, certifications, availability, and project requirements, utilising advanced scheduling tools.
  • Utilise fleet management software (e.g., telematics, GPS tracking systems) and scheduling platforms to track vehicles, routes, personnel, and assets effectively, generating insightful reports.
  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets, meticulously controlling costs related to fuel, maintenance, insurance, licensing, and staffing.
  • Conduct regular vehicle inspections and audits to ensure roadworthiness, cleanliness, and adherence to company standards.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and manage a team of drivers and support staff, fostering a culture of safety, professionalism, and high performance.
  • Implement and manage robust accident investigation procedures, reporting, and preventative measures.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all fleet operations, maintenance history, licensing, and staff deployments.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 5 years) as a Fleet Manager or in a similar senior logistics/operations management role.
  • Strong technical understanding of vehicle mechanics, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance practices across a diverse fleet.
  • Proficiency in utilising and implementing advanced fleet management software (telematics, GPS tracking, vehicle diagnostics) and scheduling tools.
  • Exceptional organisational, planning, and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and manage complex staff and vehicle schedules for operational efficiency.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK transportation regulations, health and safety standards (e.g., DVSA operator licensing, working time directives, tachograph regulations).
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills, with a track record of securing favourable contracts for services and supplies.
  • Proven experience in budget management, cost control, and financial reporting related to fleet operations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.
  • Valid UK driving licence, preferably with categories for larger vehicles (e.g., HGV Class 2 or equivalent).

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Professional certifications in fleet management (e.g., Transport Manager CPC – Certificate of Professional Competence).
  • Experience with sustainable fleet initiatives, including electric vehicle (EV) integration and charging infrastructure management.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems such as ISO 9001 and environmental management systems like ISO 14001, as applied to fleet operations.
