You will be instrumental in managing our fresh flower inventory, ensuring optimal freshness and minimal waste, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the workspace. You’ll be responsible for greeting customers warmly, understanding their needs, and guiding them through our selection of fresh flowers, plants, and related gift items. Processing sales transactions accurately, handling cash and card payments, and managing customer inquiries both in-person and over the phone will be part of your daily routine. Furthermore, maintaining an organized and visually appealing display of our products is key to attracting and retaining our valued customers. You will assist with receiving deliveries, unwrapping flowers, conditioning them properly to extend their lifespan, and ensuring stock rotation. Key Responsibilities
- Design and create custom floral arrangements, including bouquets, centerpieces, corsages, and event-specific designs.
- Provide exceptional customer service, assisting clients with flower selections, design choices, and order placement.
- Process sales transactions accurately using the point-of-sale (POS) system and handle cash/card payments.
- Receive, unload, unwrap, and properly condition fresh flower deliveries to ensure maximum longevity and freshness.
- Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and visual appeal of the flower shop, workstation, and storage areas.
- Manage and monitor fresh flower and plant inventory, rotating stock and minimizing waste through proper care.
- Answer phone calls, take orders, and handle customer inquiries and feedback promptly and professionally.
- Assist with the setup and dismantling of floral displays for events, as required.
- Water and care for plants and potted arrangements within the shop to ensure their health and presentation.
- Stay updated on current floral trends, design techniques, and seasonal availability to inspire new creations.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in floral design and arrangement, demonstrating a strong portfolio if available.
- Comprehensive knowledge of various flower types, plant care, and seasonal availability.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Basic understanding of retail operations and experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems.
- Ability to work efficiently and creatively in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Strong artistic flair, an exceptional eye for aesthetics, color theory, and attention to detail.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift moderately heavy items (e.g., buckets of water, plant pots), and perform repetitive tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal training or certification in floristry, horticulture, or a related field.
- Prior experience with wedding and large-scale event floral design.
- Proficiency in inventory management software.
- Knowledge of local Kenyan flower varieties and cultural preferences in floral design.
