In this role, you will be responsible for translating a variety of documents from English into target languages and vice-versa, ensuring accuracy, linguistic quality, and cultural appropriateness. Our projects may include, but are not limited to, public notices, customer service materials, technical manuals, legal documents, marketing communications, safety guidelines, and internal corporate messages. The ability to handle complex and sensitive information with discretion and precision is crucial. You will work on an ‘as-needed’ basis, managing your workload to meet specified deadlines and maintaining open communication with our project coordinators.

Key Responsibilities
- Translate a variety of documents from English into specified target languages and vice-versa, ensuring accuracy, fluency, and cultural relevance.
- Perform thorough proofreading and editing of translated content to guarantee error-free and high-quality deliverables.
- Adhere strictly to project guidelines, glossaries, style guides, and deadlines set by JPSCo project managers.
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive or proprietary information.
- Conduct research as needed to ensure accurate terminology and cultural appropriateness for specific subject matters (e.g., technical, legal, energy sector terminology).
- Collaborate effectively with JPSCo internal teams to clarify ambiguities and ensure the final translation meets intended objectives.
- Utilize Translation Memory (TM) and Terminology Management (TMG) tools efficiently to ensure consistency across projects.
- Provide regular updates on project status and promptly communicate any potential challenges or delays.
Required Skills
- Exceptional fluency in English and at least one other target language (e.g., Spanish, Haitian Creole, Jamaican Patois) with native-level proficiency.
- Proven experience in professional translation, demonstrating strong linguistic skills and cultural understanding.
- Excellent written communication skills with impeccable grammar, syntax, and punctuation in both source and target languages.
- Proficiency in using Translation Memory (TM) software and other CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) tools.
- Strong research skills to ensure accurate terminology and contextual relevance.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
- High level of attention to detail and commitment to producing error-free work.
- Strong ethical conduct and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Translation, Linguistics, Modern Languages, or a related field.
- Professional translation certification (e.g., ATA, ITI).
- Specialized knowledge or experience in technical, legal, energy sector, or corporate communications translation.
- Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the Jamaican demographic.
- Experience working with large organizations or utility companies.
- Familiarity with project management tools for freelance work.
