As a freelance guide, you’ll have the flexibility to manage your schedule while leading exciting excursions, from historical city walks in Portmore to exhilarating nature adventures, cultural immersions, and scenic coastal drives. We’re looking for individuals who possess a deep understanding of Jamaica’s geography, traditions, flora, fauna, and local anecdotes that bring destinations to life. Key Responsibilities
- Lead engaging and informative tours for individuals and groups across various destinations in Jamaica, primarily starting from or covering the Portmore area.
- Share in-depth knowledge of Jamaica's history, culture, geography, wildlife, and local attractions with guests.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all tour participants throughout the excursion.
- Provide exceptional customer service, addressing guest inquiries, concerns, and special requests promptly and courteously.
- Manage tour logistics, including scheduling, transportation coordination, and adherence to itineraries.
- Adapt tours to accommodate varying guest interests, physical abilities, and unexpected circumstances while maintaining quality.
- Promote a positive and memorable experience by fostering a fun, respectful, and inclusive atmosphere.
- Handle minor emergencies or unforeseen situations professionally and efficiently.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
- Provide insightful recommendations for local dining, shopping, and activities.
- Collect and communicate feedback from guests to assist in continuous improvement of tour offerings.
Required Skills
- Fluent in English with excellent verbal communication and storytelling abilities.
- Profound knowledge of Jamaican history, culture, geography, and popular tourist attractions.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a friendly, outgoing, and professional demeanor.
- Ability to manage groups effectively and ensure guest satisfaction.
- Valid Jamaican Driver's License (General or greater) with a clean driving record (if driving is required for tours).
- Excellent navigation and time management skills.
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to act calmly under pressure.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends and public holidays, as per tour schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a licensed tour guide in Jamaica.
- Proficiency in additional languages (e.g., Spanish, French, German).
- Certification from a recognized tourism authority or institution.
- Familiarity with various tour types (e.g., historical, eco-tourism, adventure, cultural).
- Knowledge of local Patois for cultural authenticity and connection.
