Job Description

Are you a passionate and skilled writer with a knack for crafting compelling narratives and informative content? World Vision Kenya is seeking talented Freelance Writers to join our pool of consultants for various digital content projects. This is a unique opportunity for a motivated individual to contribute to meaningful work from anywhere, supporting our mission to create positive change in vulnerable communities across Kenya. As a Freelance Writer, you will be instrumental in transforming complex development issues, program successes, and community stories into engaging and accessible content for diverse audiences. Projects may include writing articles, blog posts, success stories, social media content, website copy, reports, and other digital assets. This role requires a keen understanding of development themes, excellent research skills, and the ability to adapt writing styles for different platforms and target groups. We value creativity, accuracy, and a commitment to our organizational values. This is a project-based role, offering flexibility and the chance to work on a variety of impactful assignments as they arise, allowing you to leverage your skills to make a tangible difference in the lives of children and communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and gather information from provided sources, interviews, and internal documents to inform content creation.
  • Produce high-quality, engaging, and accurate written content for various digital platforms (e.g., website, blog, social media, reports).
  • Adhere strictly to World Vision Kenya's brand guidelines, tone of voice, and editorial style.
  • Collaborate with program teams, communications specialists, and other stakeholders to ensure content aligns with project objectives and messaging.
  • Edit and proofread content thoroughly to ensure grammatical accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
  • Meet agreed-upon deadlines for content delivery and revisions.
  • Incorporate feedback effectively and efficiently to refine content.
  • Participate in virtual meetings to discuss project briefs and content strategies when required.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrable experience in content writing for digital platforms.
  • Strong research and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, concise, and compelling narratives.
  • Proficiency in using digital communication tools and platforms.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • A keen eye for detail and strong proofreading abilities.
  • Reliable internet access and a suitable home office environment for remote work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, International Development, or a related field.
  • Proven experience writing about social development issues, humanitarian aid, or non-profit work.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing diverse content types and writing styles.
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices and content optimization techniques.
  • Experience working with international non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
  • Ability to write in Swahili is an added advantage.
