Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Freight Coordinator to join a leading logistics operation in Mlolongo, Nairobi. This critical role involves orchestrating the seamless movement of goods, both domestically and internationally, ensuring timely delivery and operational efficiency. As a Freight Coordinator, you will be at the heart of our client’s supply chain, managing the entire lifecycle of freight operations from initial booking to final delivery. You will be responsible for coordinating with various stakeholders including carriers, customs brokers, warehouses, and clients, ensuring all documentation is accurate and compliant with regulations.

This position requires a proactive individual with exceptional problem-solving skills, capable of navigating the complexities of logistics and responding effectively to unforeseen challenges. You will play a pivotal role in optimizing freight routes, minimizing transit times, and reducing costs while maintaining high standards of service. Your ability to communicate clearly, manage multiple tasks concurrently, and maintain meticulous records will be essential to your success. Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and monitor all aspects of freight movement, including booking, scheduling, and tracking shipments.
  • Prepare and process all necessary shipping documentation, such as bills of lading, customs declarations, and commercial invoices.
  • Communicate regularly with carriers, agents, and clients to provide updates on shipment status and resolve any issues.
  • Negotiate freight rates with carriers to secure cost-effective transportation solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, national, and international shipping regulations and customs procedures.
  • Manage and maintain accurate records of all freight activities, expenses, and documentation.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs.
  • Handle customer inquiries and provide exceptional service regarding shipment details and logistics.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including warehouse and sales, to ensure smooth operational flow.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in freight forwarding, logistics, or supply chain coordination.
  • Proven understanding of freight operations, customs procedures, and international shipping regulations.
  • Proficiency in logistics software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities with a keen eye for detail.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certification in logistics or supply chain management (e.g., CILT).
  • Experience with import/export documentation and procedures specific to East Africa.
  • Fluency in additional local languages.
