Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Furniture Restoration Craftsman to join our dedicated team in Harare. Key Responsibilities
- Inspect furniture to assess damage, identify materials, and determine the most appropriate restoration techniques.
- Perform structural repairs including joinery, re-gluing, and reinforcing weak points.
- Execute surface restoration tasks such as stripping old finishes, sanding, staining, French polishing, lacquering, and waxing.
- Repair or replace damaged veneers, inlays, and intricate carvings.
- Address upholstery needs, including fabric removal, spring repair, re-stuffing, and re-covering, if applicable to skill set.
- Select and source appropriate restoration materials, including wood, glues, finishes, and hardware.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
- Provide accurate time and material estimates for restoration projects.
- Consult with clients to understand their specific requirements and expectations, offering expert advice.
- Document restoration processes and material usage for each project.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in woodworking techniques, including joinery, carving, and sanding.
- Extensive knowledge of various wood types, veneers, and furniture construction methods.
- Expertise in traditional and modern finishing techniques (e.g., French polishing, lacquering, waxing).
- Strong understanding of adhesives, stains, and protective coatings.
- Excellent manual dexterity, precision, and hand-eye coordination.
