In this role, you will work on a diverse range of projects, from intimate urban gardens to expansive country estates. This involves everything from conducting thorough site analyses, generating imaginative conceptual sketches, creating detailed planting plans, and producing precise technical drawings using industry-standard software. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct initial client consultations and site surveys to understand project requirements, site conditions, and client preferences.
- Develop creative and innovative garden design concepts, presenting them through sketches, mood boards, and 3D visualisations.
- Produce detailed design documentation, including master plans, planting plans, construction drawings, and material specifications.
- Select appropriate plant species, hard landscaping materials, and other garden features, considering aesthetics, sustainability, and maintenance.
- Collaborate with external contractors, suppliers, and our internal team to ensure designs are buildable, cost-effective, and meet project timelines.
- Manage project budgets and procurement of materials, ensuring cost-efficiency without compromising design integrity.
- Provide design oversight and guidance during the construction phase, addressing any site-related queries or adjustments.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, new materials, and sustainable landscaping practices.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring high levels of satisfaction throughout the design process.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Garden Designer with a strong, diverse portfolio showcasing creative and technical expertise.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Vectorworks, SketchUp, ArchiCAD) and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign).
- Excellent plant knowledge and horticultural expertise, including plant identification, cultivation requirements, and aesthetic combinations.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging effectively with clients and team members.
- Strong understanding of landscape construction principles and detailing.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.
- A keen eye for detail, composition, and spatial awareness.
- Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle for site visits.
Preferred Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in Landscape Architecture, Garden Design, Horticulture, or a related field.
- Experience with sustainable design principles and practices, including water conservation and native planting schemes.
- Knowledge of local planning regulations and conservation area guidelines relevant to garden design.
- Membership or accreditation with a professional body such as the Society of Garden Designers (SGD).
