Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and experienced Gardener to join our team at Maison Saint-André Pastoral Centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for the comprehensive maintenance and enhancement of our extensive gardens and grounds. This role requires a strong understanding of horticulture, a keen eye for detail, and the physical stamina to perform a variety of outdoor tasks. You will play a crucial role in ensuring our landscapes remain vibrant, healthy, and visually appealing throughout the year, reflecting the peaceful and inviting nature of our centre. Key Responsibilities
- Perform regular mowing, edging, trimming, and pruning of lawns, shrubs, and trees.
- Plant, cultivate, and maintain various types of flowers, plants, and trees according to seasonal needs.
- Manage irrigation systems, ensuring proper watering schedules for all plant life.
- Implement effective weeding and pest control strategies using environmentally friendly methods where possible.
- Prepare soil beds, apply fertilizers, and mulch as required to promote healthy plant growth.
- Maintain pathways, patios, and other hardscape features, ensuring they are clean and free of debris.
- Operate and maintain gardening equipment and tools safely and efficiently (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers, hand tools).
- Monitor the health of plants and landscapes, identifying and addressing any issues promptly.
- Assist with seasonal clean-ups, leaf removal, and general tidiness of the grounds.
- Collaborate with the facilities team to ensure integrated upkeep of the entire property.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines during work operations.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in gardening, landscaping, or grounds maintenance.
- Solid knowledge of plant care, including planting, pruning, watering, and pest management.
- Proficiency in operating various gardening tools and equipment.
- Physical fitness and stamina to perform demanding outdoor tasks in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of landscape aesthetics.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a cooperative attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- A certificate or diploma in horticulture, landscape design, or a related field.
- Experience with sustainable gardening practices.
- Knowledge of local flora and fauna in the Rwandan climate.
- A valid Rwandan driving license (Category B or C).
