Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and skilled Gardener to join our facilities team in Ebene, Plaines Wilhems District. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a passion for horticulture and a keen eye for detail to maintain and enhance the aesthetic appeal of our corporate compound and surrounding landscaped areas. As a Gardener, you will be instrumental in ensuring our outdoor spaces are not just functional, but also visually stunning and environmentally sustainable, reflecting our company’s commitment to excellence in every aspect of our operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily gardening duties including mowing lawns, weeding flowerbeds, pruning shrubs and trees, and edging pathways.
  • Plant new flowers, shrubs, and trees according to landscaping plans and seasonal requirements.
  • Water plants, lawns, and gardens regularly, ensuring optimal hydration and efficient water usage.
  • Monitor plant health, identify common pests and diseases, and apply appropriate treatments.
  • Apply fertilizers and soil amendments as needed to promote healthy plant growth.
  • Maintain irrigation systems, reporting any malfunctions or necessary repairs.
  • Keep all gardening tools and equipment clean, sharp, and in good working order.
  • Ensure the compound and garden areas are kept tidy, free of litter, and presentable at all times.
  • Assist with the removal of garden waste and debris.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations pertaining to gardening work and equipment operation.
  • Report any potential hazards or issues related to the grounds to the facilities management team.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Gardener or Landscaper, preferably in a corporate or commercial setting.
  • Solid understanding of horticulture, including plant species, soil types, and plant care techniques relevant to Mauritius climate.
  • Ability to operate various gardening tools and machinery safely and effectively (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers).
  • Strong physical stamina and ability to perform demanding outdoor work in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to garden maintenance.
  • Good time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Basic knowledge of pest and disease control methods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal qualification or certification in horticulture, landscaping, or a related field.
  • Experience with irrigation system maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of sustainable gardening practices.
  • Valid Mauritian driving license (manual preferred).
  • Ability to identify local flora and fauna.
