As a Gardener with Career.zycto, you will be instrumental in enhancing the beauty and health of landscapes throughout Edinburgh. Your daily tasks will be diverse, ranging from meticulous planting and pruning to comprehensive grounds maintenance, ensuring that our green spaces are always presented to the highest possible standard. You’ll work with a variety of plant species, soil types, and environmental conditions, continuously learning and applying best practices in sustainable gardening. Key Responsibilities
- Perform general garden maintenance tasks including planting, pruning, weeding, mulching, and watering.
- Maintain lawns and turf areas through mowing, edging, feeding, and pest control.
- Implement seasonal planting schemes and manage plant health, including pest and disease identification and treatment.
- Operate and maintain a range of gardening machinery and tools safely and effectively (e.g., mowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers).
- Monitor and maintain irrigation systems to ensure optimal plant hydration.
- Ensure all grounds are kept tidy, clean, and free from litter and debris.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Work collaboratively with the landscaping team to achieve project goals and maintain high standards.
- Provide advice and insights on plant care and landscape improvements where appropriate.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Gardener or in a similar landscaping role (minimum 2 years).
- Solid knowledge of horticultural practices, plant identification, and care.
- Proficiency in operating various gardening machinery and hand tools.
- Strong physical fitness and stamina for outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to garden maintenance.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Full UK driving licence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Horticultural qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3 in Horticulture).
- PA1/PA6 spraying certificates.
- Experience with landscape design or enhancement projects.
- First Aid certification.
- Knowledge of sustainable gardening practices.
