Job Description
Greenscape Landscaping Kenya is seeking a dedicated and experienced Gardener to join our residential services team in Nairobi. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a true passion for horticulture and a keen eye for detail to maintain and enhance private gardens and estates. As a Residential Service Gardener, you will be responsible for the year-round upkeep and aesthetic improvement of our clients’ outdoor spaces, ensuring they remain vibrant, healthy, and pristine regardless of the season. Your role will be crucial in building strong client relationships through consistent delivery of high-quality service and proactive communication, understanding and anticipating their needs for a perfect garden. You will work independently and as part of a small, agile team, managing diverse plant species, executing precise pruning, maintaining lush lawns, and ensuring efficient irrigation systems are always in top working order. Key Responsibilities
- Perform general garden maintenance duties including weeding, pruning, deadheading, mulching, and planting.
- Maintain lawns through regular mowing, edging, fertilizing, and aeration.
- Monitor and manage irrigation systems to ensure optimal plant hydration and efficiency.
- Diagnose and treat plant diseases and pest infestations using environmentally sound methods.
- Ensure all gardening tools and equipment are properly maintained, cleaned, and stored in a safe manner.
- Provide expert advice to clients on plant care, garden design improvements, and seasonal changes.
- Comply with all health and safety regulations while on client premises and during operations.
- Keep accurate records of work performed, materials used, and client-specific garden requirements.
- Safely operate a variety of hand and power tools relevant to gardening work, adhering to best practices.
- Handle green waste responsibly, including composting and proper disposal, maintaining a clean work environment.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 2 years) as a gardener in a residential or similar setting.
- In-depth knowledge of various plant types, their care requirements, and common pests/diseases.
- Proficiency in operating gardening tools and machinery (mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, etc.).
- Strong physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and client schedules.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate initiative.
- Basic understanding of irrigation systems installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Good communication skills and a courteous demeanor when interacting with clients and team members.
Preferred Qualifications
- Horticulture certificate or diploma from a recognized institution.
- Valid Kenyan driving license with a clean record, preferably for manual vehicles.
- Extensive knowledge of indigenous Kenyan plants and sustainable gardening practices.
- Experience with basic landscape design principles and plant layout.
- First Aid certification and knowledge of emergency procedures.
