Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive medical evaluations, diagnoses, and treatments for patients across various specialties.
  • Order, interpret, and act upon diagnostic tests, including laboratory results, imaging, and specialist reports.
  • Develop and implement individualized patient care plans, ensuring adherence to clinical guidelines and best practices.
  • Prescribe medications and other therapies, monitoring patient response and adjusting treatments as necessary.
  • Perform minor medical procedures and assist in emergency interventions as required.
  • Collaborate effectively with specialist consultants, nurses, and allied health professionals to ensure integrated patient management.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential patient medical records.
  • Educate patients and their families on their medical conditions, treatment options, and preventative health measures.
  • Participate in ward rounds, clinical meetings, and continuous professional development activities.
  • Adhere strictly to medical ethics, patient confidentiality, and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and patient safety protocols.

Required Skills

  • Medical Doctor (MD/MBBS) degree from a recognized institution.
  • Full registration with the Medical Council of Mauritius (or eligible for registration).
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-internship clinical experience as a General Practitioner or Medical Officer in a hospital setting.
  • Excellent clinical diagnostic and therapeutic skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and French (Mauritian Creole an advantage).
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record systems.
  • Sound knowledge of medical ethics and patient safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification or specialization in General Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications.
  • Experience within a public health system or a large hospital environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous medical education and professional development.
