Job Description
We are actively seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Greenhouse Attendant to become an integral part of our vibrant horticulture team at Kilifi Plantations Ltd. This full-time, on-site position is absolutely critical to the daily operational success and long-term productivity of our state-of-the-art greenhouse facilities. The ideal candidate will be a proactive individual eager to immerse themselves in all facets of greenhouse management, from the delicate process of planting and nurturing young seedlings to meticulously monitoring environmental controls and executing precise harvesting schedules. Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily tasks such as precise watering, optimal fertilizing, strategic pruning, and careful thinning of plants according to established schedules and crop-specific protocols.
- Routinely monitor plant health, meticulously identifying and promptly reporting any early signs of pests, diseases, or nutritional deficiencies to supervisors for timely intervention.
- Actively assist with the planting, delicate transplanting, and efficient propagation of various horticultural crops within the greenhouse environment.
- Maintain an impeccably clean and organized greenhouse environment, including regular tidying of work areas, proper waste disposal, and diligent sanitization of tools and equipment.
- Accurately operate and perform basic maintenance on essential greenhouse equipment, including advanced irrigation systems, climate control ventilation fans, and effective shading mechanisms.
- Participate in the harvesting, careful grading, and proper packaging of crops, ensuring all produce consistently meets our stringent quality standards.
- Diligently record relevant data pertaining to plant growth metrics, fluctuating environmental conditions, and all pest or disease observations.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety regulations and operational policies, especially those concerning the safe handling of agricultural chemicals and operating machinery.
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and productive team environment by communicating effectively and supporting colleagues in daily tasks.
Required Skills
- Basic foundational knowledge of horticultural practices and general plant care principles.
- Demonstrated ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including repetitive lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Exceptional attention to detail and keen observational skills to detect subtle changes in plant health.
- Proven ability to accurately follow both verbal and written instructions with precision.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong, dedicated team player committed to collective success.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for record-keeping and understanding instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) or more years of previous hands-on experience working in a controlled greenhouse or general agricultural setting.
- Possession of a certificate or diploma in horticulture, agriculture, or a closely related field.
- Familiarity with integrated pest management (IPM) techniques and organic pest control methods.
- Working knowledge of various irrigation methods and water management strategies for crops.
