Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and experienced Greenhouse Supervisor for Plant Monitoring to join our dynamic team in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in overseeing the health, growth, and productivity of our diverse plant inventory within our state-of-the-art greenhouse facilities.

The Greenhouse Supervisor will be responsible for the daily supervision of plant monitoring activities, ensuring optimal environmental conditions, proactive pest and disease management, and the implementation of precise irrigation and fertilization programs. Your expertise will directly influence the quality and yield of our produce. This position requires a keen eye for detail, strong leadership capabilities, and a deep understanding of horticultural science and greenhouse operations.

You will lead a small team of plant technicians, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to maintain high operational standards. A significant part of your role involves meticulous data collection and analysis related to plant growth, environmental parameters, and any observed issues, ensuring accurate record-keeping for continuous improvement. You will also be the primary point of contact for identifying and reporting abnormalities, developing corrective actions, and collaborating with senior management to enhance overall greenhouse efficiency and plant welfare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily plant monitoring activities within controlled greenhouse environments.
  • Implement and oversee pest and disease scouting, identification, and integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
  • Monitor environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, CO2 levels, light intensity) and adjust climate control systems as needed.
  • Develop and manage irrigation and nutrient delivery schedules tailored to specific crop requirements.
  • Conduct regular plant health assessments, identifying deficiencies, stressors, or abnormalities promptly.
  • Train, supervise, and mentor a team of greenhouse technicians, ensuring adherence to best practices and safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of plant growth, treatment applications, environmental data, and production yields.
  • Operate and troubleshoot greenhouse equipment and automation systems.
  • Collaborate with management on crop planning, production schedules, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all agricultural regulations and quality standards.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in greenhouse operations and plant monitoring.
  • Strong knowledge of plant physiology, pathology, entomology, and nutrient management.
  • Proficiency in identifying common plant pests, diseases, and nutritional deficiencies.
  • Experience with integrated pest management (IPM) techniques.
  • Ability to operate and interpret data from environmental control systems.
  • Excellent leadership, team management, and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical capabilities.
  • Proficiency in record-keeping and data analysis software (e.g., spreadsheets).
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
  • Physical stamina for regular walking, standing, and lifting in a greenhouse environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, Plant Science, or a related field.
  • Certification in pesticide application and safety.
  • Experience with specific greenhouse crops relevant to Kitale's climate (e.g., flowers, vegetables, ornamentals).
  • Familiarity with hydroponic or aquaponic systems.
  • Prior experience in a supervisory or team lead role within an agricultural setting.
