Job Description
Semonkong Lodge is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Grounds Assistant to join our vibrant team. This pivotal role involves maintaining the beauty and functionality of our expansive outdoor areas, ensuring they are always welcoming and safe for our guests and staff. You will play a crucial part in upholding the lodge’s high standards of appearance, from meticulously manicured gardens to well-kept pathways and recreational spaces. Key Responsibilities
- Perform general landscaping duties, including mowing lawns, weeding, pruning shrubs and trees, and planting flowers and indigenous vegetation.
- Maintain all pathways, trails, and outdoor common areas, ensuring they are clean, free of debris, and safe for pedestrian traffic.
- Assist with irrigation system checks and basic repairs to ensure efficient water usage.
- Operate and maintain various groundskeeping equipment such as lawnmowers, trimmers, and hand tools safely and effectively.
- Monitor the health of plants and grounds, identifying and reporting any issues like pests, diseases, or damage.
- Participate in waste management and recycling initiatives around the lodge grounds.
- Support the broader lodge team with ad-hoc outdoor tasks or events as required.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and environmental guidelines.
- Contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal of the lodge, creating a positive first impression for all visitors.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a similar outdoor maintenance role.
- Ability to operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment safely.
- Strong physical stamina and ability to perform demanding outdoor tasks in various weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of horticulture, including plant care, pruning, and soil health.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Good observational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic communication skills in English or Sesotho.
Preferred Qualifications
- A certificate or diploma in horticulture, landscaping, or a related field.
- Experience working in a hospitality or lodge environment.
- Familiarity with indigenous plants of Lesotho.
- Valid driver's license (light duty vehicle).
