Maliba Lodge, Lesotho’s premier 5-star retreat, is seeking a dedicated and energetic Grounds Cleaner to join our vibrant team in Ha Rafolatsane, Mokhotlong. Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain all garden areas, lawns, flowerbeds, and pathways by regularly weeding, pruning, mowing, watering, and sweeping.
  • Ensure all outdoor common areas, including patios, parking lots, and recreational spaces, are consistently clean, tidy, and free of litter, debris, or overgrown vegetation.
  • Safely and efficiently operate and maintain various groundskeeping equipment such as lawnmowers, trimmers, blowers, and hand tools.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks on outdoor fixtures, fencing, and irrigation systems as needed, escalating complex issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Manage waste disposal and recycling efforts in outdoor areas, ensuring proper segregation, timely collection, and adherence to environmental guidelines.
  • Monitor grounds regularly for any potential hazards, damage, or areas requiring immediate attention, reporting issues promptly to the supervisor.
  • Assist with seasonal landscaping projects, planting new flora, and renovation efforts to continuously enhance the lodge’s aesthetic appeal and guest experience.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with other lodge departments, such as housekeeping and maintenance, to ensure seamless operations and overall guest satisfaction.
  • Maintain a professional, courteous, and respectful demeanor when interacting with guests, colleagues, and members of the local community.

Required Skills

  • Proven physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving cleaning and maintenance needs without constant supervision.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong, consistent work ethic.
  • Basic understanding of gardening techniques, plant care, and the safe operation of groundskeeping equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently as well as effectively collaborate as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills to report issues, receive instructions, and coordinate with supervisors and colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 6 months to 1 year of professional experience in grounds cleaning, landscaping, or a similar role within a hospitality or facility management setting.
  • Basic literacy (ability to read and understand simple instructions and safety manuals).
  • Knowledge of local flora and fauna, and best practices for their care in the Lesotho climate.
  • Valid driver's license (Lesotho code 8/B or equivalent) for operating utility vehicles, which would be advantageous but is not mandatory for the role.
