Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, and leaf blowing.
  • Planting, watering, and maintaining flowerbeds, shrubs, and trees to ensure optimal growth and appearance.
  • Pruning hedges and shrubs to maintain desired shapes, sizes, and health.
  • Monitor and maintain irrigation systems, making minor repairs and adjustments as needed.
  • Ensure pathways, driveways, and other hard surfaces are clean, free of debris, and safe.
  • Execute seasonal tasks such as snow removal, gritting, and preparing grounds for different weather conditions.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of grounds maintenance equipment (e.g., mowers, strimmers, blowers, chainsaws), ensuring safe and efficient use.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, health and safety hazards, or significant issues to the supervisor promptly.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Assist with waste management, litter picking, and general tidiness of all external areas.
  • Undertake minor landscaping projects and improvements as directed by the management.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 1 year) in grounds maintenance or a similar outdoor labour role.
  • Proficiency in operating grounds maintenance equipment (mowers, strimmers, blowers, hedge trimmers, etc.).
  • Basic knowledge of horticulture, plant care, and seasonal maintenance techniques.
  • Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong physical fitness and stamina for demanding outdoor work in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of work.
  • Valid UK driving license (desirable, may be required for certain sites or equipment transport).

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture, Landscaping, or a related field.
  • PA1/PA6 Pesticide Application qualification.
  • Experience with basic irrigation system installation or advanced maintenance.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Previous experience working on commercial, residential estates, or public sector properties.
  • Proficiency in operating larger machinery like compact tractors or ride-on mowers.
