Career.zycto is seeking an experienced Harbour Master Assistant to join our operational team in Osnabrück, Lower Saxony. You will work closely with the Harbour Master, contributing significantly to the smooth flow of vessel traffic, cargo handling, and overall port security. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Harbour Master in the daily management and operation of port facilities, ensuring compliance with all relevant maritime laws, regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Monitor and manage vessel traffic movements, including arrivals, departures, and berthing, utilizing VTS systems and maintaining accurate records.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections of port areas, equipment, and vessels, identifying and reporting any hazards or non-compliance issues.
  • Liaise effectively with ship agents, masters, pilots, stevedores, and other port users to ensure efficient and coordinated operations.
  • Respond to and assist in managing maritime incidents, emergencies, and environmental protection measures within the port jurisdiction.
  • Maintain comprehensive logs, reports, and administrative records pertaining to port activities, including vessel declarations, cargo manifests, and incident reports.
  • Support the implementation of port security plans and procedures in accordance with ISPS Code requirements.
  • Provide guidance and information to port users regarding port regulations, tariffs, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in the planning and coordination of maintenance activities for port infrastructure.
  • Assist in training and developing junior staff members and promoting a culture of safety and operational excellence.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in port operations, maritime administration, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of national and international maritime regulations, including SOLAS, MARPOL, and ISPS Code.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in German and English.
  • Proficiency in using maritime traffic management systems and standard office software.
  • Exceptional organizational and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and make sound decisions in critical situations.
  • A valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree or diploma in Maritime Studies, Port Management, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant maritime certifications (e.g., STCW certificates, VTS Operator certificate).
  • Experience with inland waterway regulations and operations specific to Germany.
  • First aid and basic fire-fighting certification.
