Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of electronic health records (EHRs) with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ensure strict compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and other relevant data privacy and security regulations.
  • Perform comprehensive chart analysis, identify documentation deficiencies, and collaborate effectively with clinical staff to resolve them.
  • Assist with medical coding and abstracting tasks, including ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS, as required.
  • Process requests for protected health information (PHI) in strict accordance with established organizational policies and legal mandates.
  • Conduct regular and thorough audits of health records to identify and correct data discrepancies and ensure data quality.
  • Utilize various health information systems and software platforms effectively for efficient data management, storage, and retrieval.
  • Collaborate remotely and professionally with interdepartmental teams to support data-driven initiatives and improve workflows.
  • Actively participate in ongoing training, workshops, and professional development opportunities to stay current with industry standards, best practices, and technological advancements.
  • Contribute to the development, review, and improvement of Health Information Management (HIM) policies and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, MEDITECH).
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology.
  • In-depth knowledge of HIPAA regulations, HITECH Act, and patient data privacy laws.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in all tasks.
  • Strong organizational and effective time management skills with the ability to prioritize.
  • Proven ability to work independently, demonstrate self-motivation, and manage multiple tasks remotely.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear and professional interactions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Technology, Health Informatics, or a closely related field.
  • Current RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) certification.
  • 1-2 years of progressive experience within a health information management (HIM) department or a similar healthcare administrative role.
  • Demonstrated experience with specific advanced EHR platforms such as Epic, Cerner, or MEDITECH.
  • Familiarity with medical coding systems including ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS.
  • Prior successful experience working in a fully remote or hybrid capacity.
