Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and experienced Health & Safety Officer on behalf of a prominent industrial estate located in Priory, St. Ann. This professional role is pivotal in ensuring a safe, healthy, and compliant working environment for all personnel and visitors within the estate. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring robust health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to national and international standards. You will be responsible for fostering a strong safety culture, conducting regular risk assessments, facilitating training, and leading investigations into incidents and accidents. Our client’s industrial estate comprises a diverse range of operations, making this a challenging yet rewarding position for someone passionate about occupational safety and environmental protection. You will be a key advisor on all H&S matters, helping to drive continuous improvement and ensure the well-being of hundreds of individuals across multiple businesses operating within the estate. This includes managing emergency preparedness plans, conducting safety audits, and staying abreast of the latest legislative changes in occupational health and safety. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures in line with Jamaican OSH Act and international best practices.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, safety inspections, and audits across the industrial estate to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Organize and deliver health and safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Ensure all necessary permits, licenses, and certifications related to health and safety are current and adhered to.
  • Monitor and report on H&S performance, recommending improvements to management.
  • Advise management on health and safety matters, including new legislation, best practices, and technological advancements.
  • Manage emergency response plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
  • Oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, internal departments, and external contractors on all health and safety aspects.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in an H&S role, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Jamaican Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Proven ability to conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH IGC or similar internationally recognized H&S qualification.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience with environmental management systems.
  • Familiarity with fire safety regulations and equipment.
