Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join our dynamic team, focusing on a bustling industrial estate in Smithfield, Savanna-la-Mar. As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring robust H&S programs designed to mitigate risks, prevent incidents, and promote the overall well-being of our employees and contractors. You will conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations, providing expert guidance and recommendations for continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective Health & Safety Management Systems (HSMS) aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments, hazard identifications, and safety audits across the industrial estate to pinpoint potential risks and recommend corrective actions.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports, identifying root causes, and implementing preventative measures.
- Deliver engaging and comprehensive health and safety training programs to employees and contractors, ensuring full understanding and compliance with safety protocols.
- Ensure strict adherence to all local and international health and safety legislation, including OSHA standards and Jamaican labour laws.
- Maintain meticulous records of all safety inspections, training sessions, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
- Advise management on health and safety performance, challenges, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Champion a proactive safety culture through communication campaigns, safety committees, and regular engagement with all personnel.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Strong analytical skills for conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to engage diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or Diploma, or equivalent internationally recognized safety qualification.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience with environmental management systems is a plus.
