Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join our dynamic team, focusing on a bustling industrial estate in Smithfield, Savanna-la-Mar. This pivotal role requires a seasoned professional committed to fostering a world-class safety culture and ensuring compliance with all national and international health and safety regulations. As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring robust H&S programs designed to mitigate risks, prevent incidents, and promote the overall well-being of our employees and contractors. You will conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations, providing expert guidance and recommendations for continuous improvement. This position demands a proactive individual with excellent communication skills, capable of engaging stakeholders at all levels, from management to front-line staff, to embed safety as a core value. You will also be responsible for delivering comprehensive safety training, maintaining accurate records, and staying abreast of evolving H&S legislation and best practices. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective Health & Safety Management Systems (HSMS) aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments, hazard identifications, and safety audits across the industrial estate to pinpoint potential risks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports, identifying root causes, and implementing preventative measures.
  • Deliver engaging and comprehensive health and safety training programs to employees and contractors, ensuring full understanding and compliance with safety protocols.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all local and international health and safety legislation, including OSHA standards and Jamaican labour laws.
  • Maintain meticulous records of all safety inspections, training sessions, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Advise management on health and safety performance, challenges, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Champion a proactive safety culture through communication campaigns, safety committees, and regular engagement with all personnel.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Strong analytical skills for conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to engage diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or Diploma, or equivalent internationally recognized safety qualification.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Experience with environmental management systems is a plus.
