Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to lead and manage all aspects of occupational health and safety within our dynamic industrial estate operations in Coopers Pen, Falmouth. This professional role is critical to ensuring compliance with all local and international safety regulations, fostering a proactive safety culture, and mitigating risks across multiple industrial facilities. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring robust H&S programs, policies, and procedures designed to safeguard our workforce, visitors, and assets. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of industrial safety protocols, hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation techniques. You will collaborate closely with management, supervisors, and employees at all levels, acting as a trusted advisor and champion for best practices in health and safety. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety Management Systems aligned with Jamaican OHS legislation and international best practices.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits across the industrial estate to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventative actions.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to management and employees on all H&S matters, including legislative requirements and hazard control.
  • Organize and deliver engaging H&S training programs for all personnel, covering topics such as emergency procedures, safe work practices, and chemical handling.
  • Prepare and submit accurate H&S reports, including incident statistics, audit findings, and performance metrics to management.
  • Ensure all necessary H&S permits, licenses, and certifications are obtained and maintained.
  • Lead and participate in H&S committee meetings, promoting active employee involvement in safety initiatives.
  • Oversee the proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with regulations.
  • Implement and manage emergency preparedness and response plans, including fire safety and first aid protocols.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience as an H&S Officer, preferably within an industrial, manufacturing, or logistics environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act and regulations.
  • Proven experience in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 implementation and auditing.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience in developing and delivering safety training programs.
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems.
