Job Description
Career.zycto is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Health & Safety Officer to join our team, specifically overseeing our industrial estate operations in Washington Gardens, Kingston. This is a pivotal professional role designed for an individual who can proactively implement, manage, and continuously improve robust health and safety management systems across a multi-tenant industrial environment. The successful candidate will be instrumental in cultivating a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with all national and international H&S regulations, and mitigating risks inherent to industrial operations.
Working within a diverse operational landscape, you will be responsible for identifying potential hazards, conducting thorough risk assessments, and developing effective control measures. This role demands a hands-on approach, requiring regular site inspections, incident investigation, and the delivery of engaging safety training programs to estate tenants and our operational staff. You will act as the primary point of contact for all H&S-related matters, providing expert advice and guidance to management and employees alike. Your contribution will directly impact the operational efficiency and overall safety record of the industrial estate, fostering a secure and productive environment for all occupants. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national regulations and international best practices.
- Conduct regular H&S audits, inspections, and risk assessments across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending preventative actions to avoid recurrence.
- Design and deliver engaging H&S training programs for estate tenants and Career.zycto staff on various safety topics (e.g., fire safety, first aid, emergency preparedness, machinery safety).
- Ensure all necessary permits, licenses, and certifications relating to H&S are current and adhered to.
- Monitor and report on H&S performance, compiling relevant statistics and preparing reports for management and regulatory bodies.
- Advise management and tenants on H&S matters, promoting a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage the disposal of hazardous waste and ensure environmental compliance within the industrial estate.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies (e.g., Ministry of Labour and Social Security) on all H&S matters.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of Jamaican H&S legislation and regulations.
- Excellent risk assessment and incident investigation skills.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent certification.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience with ISO 45001 or other H&S management systems.
- Fluency in English (written and verbal).
