Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking an experienced and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to oversee and enhance safety protocols within our vibrant industrial estate in Papine, Kingston. This professional role demands a proactive individual who is passionate about creating and maintaining a secure working environment across multiple industrial facilities. As a key member of our operations team, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring robust health and safety policies and procedures that comply with local regulations and international best practices. This includes conducting regular site inspections, risk assessments, and ensuring all personnel are adequately trained and informed on safety matters. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of industrial safety challenges, be adept at identifying potential hazards, and capable of implementing effective preventative measures. You will foster a culture of safety awareness and accountability, contributing significantly to the well-being of our workforce and the operational excellence of our industrial tenants. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures tailored for an industrial estate environment.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with all relevant H&S legislation and company standards.
  • Perform detailed risk assessments for various operations and equipment, proposing and implementing effective control measures.
  • Organize and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for staff, contractors, and tenants on topics such as emergency procedures, equipment operation, and hazard communication.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure all necessary H&S documentation, records, and reports are accurately maintained and submitted as required.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for H&S inquiries from tenants, staff, and regulatory bodies.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through consistent communication, campaigns, and proactive engagement with all stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of H&S programs, making continuous improvements based on performance data and feedback.
  • Stay current with local and international health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OSH (Occupational Safety and Health) legislation and regulations.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to develop and deliver engaging safety training programs.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of specific industrial hazards (e.g., chemical safety, confined spaces, working at heights).
