Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join one of our esteemed clients operating within a thriving industrial estate in Anchovy, St. James. This professional role is critical for ensuring a safe, compliant, and productive working environment across diverse industrial operations. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive health and safety management systems, driving a proactive safety culture, and mitigating risks inherent to industrial settings.
As the Health & Safety Officer, you will be the primary advocate for occupational safety, working closely with management, employees, and external stakeholders. Your expertise will safeguard workers, protect company assets, and ensure adherence to all local and international health and safety regulations. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) in line with local regulations and international best practices.
- Conduct regular and thorough risk assessments, hazard identification, and safety audits across all operational areas within the industrial estate.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant Jamaican Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation and industry standards.
- Advise management on health and safety matters, including new legislation, best practices, and technological advancements.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident reports, training logs, and other relevant documentation.
- Lead emergency preparedness and response planning, including drills and training for fire safety, first aid, and evacuations.
- Promote a positive safety culture through proactive engagement, communication campaigns, and incentive programs.
- Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and inspection of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Collaborate with internal departments and external bodies (e.g., regulatory agencies) to ensure continuous improvement in safety performance.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard control techniques.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to conduct effective safety training and awareness programs.
- Demonstrated ability to investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely, or equivalent.
- Experience with ISO 45001 implementation and auditing.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience in environmental management practices.
