Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join one of our esteemed industrial clients within a thriving industrial estate in Port Antonio, Portland. This professional role is pivotal in ensuring the highest standards of occupational health and safety are maintained, promoting a culture of awareness, and safeguarding the well-being of all personnel. As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs that comply with both local regulations and international best practices. You will serve as the primary point of contact for all H&S-related matters, providing expert guidance, conducting regular audits, and leading incident investigations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with all H&S regulations.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, near-misses, and occupational illnesses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Organize and deliver effective H&S training programs, workshops, and awareness campaigns for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping of all H&S activities, incidents, and training, preparing detailed reports for management and regulatory bodies.
  • Advise management on the implementation of new safety technologies, best practices, and legislative changes to continually improve H&S performance.
  • Coordinate emergency response plans and drills, ensuring the readiness of personnel and equipment for unforeseen events.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices relevant to Jamaica and international contexts.
  • Demonstrated expertise in risk assessment, hazard identification, and incident investigation methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively engage and train diverse groups.
  • Proficiency in using H&S management software and standard office applications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to safety management.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced industrial setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certified First Aid and CPR instructor.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System) implementation and auditing.
  • Familiarity with waste management protocols and environmental protection regulations.
