Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join a prominent industrial estate in Greendale, Spanish Town. This is a crucial professional role designed for an individual passionate about fostering a culture of safety, ensuring regulatory compliance, and proactively managing risks within a dynamic industrial environment. As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be the cornerstone of our client’s safety program, responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring policies and procedures that safeguard the well-being of all employees, contractors, and visitors. You will conduct thorough risk assessments, investigate incidents, and provide expert guidance on best practices, ensuring all operations adhere to national and international safety standards.

This position requires a proactive approach to identifying potential hazards, implementing corrective actions, and continuously improving safety performance. You will be instrumental in conducting regular site inspections, audits, and training sessions to raise safety awareness and competence across all levels of the organization. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are paramount, as you will be liaising with various stakeholders, including management, employees, regulatory bodies, and external contractors. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of industrial safety regulations, occupational health best practices, and emergency response planning. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national regulations (e.g., OSHA, local labor laws) and industry best practices.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, non-compliance, and areas for improvement within the industrial estate.
  • Perform detailed risk assessments for all operational activities, machinery, and processes, recommending and overseeing the implementation of effective control measures.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and developing preventative strategies to avoid recurrence.
  • Organize and deliver engaging safety training programs and workshops for all employees, contractors, and new hires.
  • Ensure all safety equipment is properly maintained, regularly inspected, and readily available for use.
  • Prepare and submit accurate safety reports, analyses of safety data, and compliance documentation to management and regulatory bodies.
  • Lead and facilitate emergency response planning, drills, and crisis management procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of health and safety legislation, standards, and industry trends.
  • Collaborate with management and department heads to integrate safety considerations into all operational planning and decision-making.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and compliance requirements in Jamaica.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as NEBOSH, OSHA 30-Hour General Industry, or equivalent.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 or other integrated management systems.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems.
