Job Description
Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to oversee and enhance occupational health and safety standards within a bustling industrial estate in Mineral Heights, May Pen. This professional role is critical to maintaining a secure, productive, and compliant environment for all personnel and operations. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs, ensuring strict adherence to both local and international H&S regulations. You will be a proactive force, identifying potential hazards, conducting thorough risk assessments, and collaborating closely with management and staff to foster a strong safety-first culture. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously review comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, non-compliance issues, and areas for improvement within the industrial estate.
- Lead and coordinate risk assessments, accident investigations, and near-miss reporting, implementing corrective and preventive actions effectively.
- Organize and deliver engaging H&S training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors, ensuring awareness and competency in safety protocols.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant Jamaican occupational safety and health legislation, including the OSH Act and other pertinent regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of all H&S activities, incidents, inspections, and training, preparing detailed reports for management.
- Manage emergency preparedness plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures, conducting regular drills.
- Advise management on H&S best practices, new regulations, and necessary investments to enhance workplace safety.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through regular communication, safety campaigns, and employee engagement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in occupational health and safety management, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of Jamaican H&S legislation and international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and accident investigations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver H&S training.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent H&S qualification.
- Experience with environmental management systems (EMS).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Familiarity with heavy machinery and industrial processes.
