Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to lead our safety initiatives within a dynamic industrial estate located in Coral Gardens, Montego Bay. This professional role demands a proactive individual with a deep understanding of occupational health and safety regulations, best practices, and a proven ability to implement effective safety management systems. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs to ensure a safe working environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors.

As the Health & Safety Officer, you will be the primary point of contact for all safety-related matters, working closely with management, departmental heads, and front-line staff to embed a strong safety culture. Your responsibilities will span from conducting risk assessments and incident investigations to developing training programs and ensuring compliance with local and international safety standards. This role requires excellent communication skills, a meticulous approach to documentation, and the ability to influence positive change through engagement and education. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) management system in accordance with local regulations and international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports and implementing preventative measures.
  • Design and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and new hires.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant Jamaican OHS legislation and industry-specific safety standards.
  • Manage and maintain accurate records of all safety-related documentation, including permits, inspections, training, and incident reports.
  • Advise management on current and emerging OHS issues, recommending improvements and strategic initiatives.
  • Lead safety committee meetings and promote active employee participation in safety programs.
  • Develop and manage emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Monitor contractor safety performance and ensure adherence to site safety protocols.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety principles and practices.
  • Excellent understanding of Jamaican OHS legislation and relevant international standards.
  • Strong ability to conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
  • Proficiency in developing and delivering engaging safety training programs.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma, CSP, CRSP).
  • Experience with ISO 45001 implementation and auditing.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Experience in emergency planning and disaster management.
