Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our client’s dynamic team, operating within a bustling industrial estate in Priory, St. Ann. This professional role is critical in ensuring a safe and compliant working environment for all personnel, contractors, and visitors. As the Health & Safety Officer, you will be the cornerstone of our safety culture, responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs that adhere to both local regulations and international best practices. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies, procedures, and programmes in line with local regulations and international standards.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and workplace inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to management and employees on all aspects of occupational health and safety.
- Organise and deliver engaging safety training sessions, workshops, and induction programmes for new hires and existing staff.
- Prepare and present detailed H&S reports, including incident statistics, audit findings, and performance metrics, to management.
- Manage the recording and reporting of safety data, ensuring accurate documentation for compliance and continuous improvement.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, external auditors, and emergency services as required.
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout the industrial estate through awareness campaigns and proactive engagement.
- Ensure all equipment and machinery meet safety standards and that necessary permits-to-work are in place for hazardous operations.
Required Skills
- Minimum 4 years of proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrable knowledge of Jamaican OHS legislation and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to train and influence at all levels.
- Proficiency in conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent professional safety qualification.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience with safety management software systems.
- Knowledge of environmental management systems (ISO 14001).
