Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor occupational health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with Jamaican regulations and international best practices.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Deliver comprehensive safety training programs to employees, contractors, and visitors on various topics including hazard communication, emergency procedures, and safe work practices.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident reports, training sessions, and regulatory compliance documents.
- Advise management on health and safety matters, providing expert guidance on compliance requirements and risk mitigation strategies.
- Develop and manage emergency response plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout the industrial estate through communication campaigns, awareness programs, and active engagement with stakeholders.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies (e.g., Ministry of Labour and Social Security) on all health and safety matters, ensuring all statutory requirements are met.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, specifically within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations in Jamaica (e.g., OSH Act) and international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Certification in Occupational Safety and Health (e.g., NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely).
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver engaging training sessions.
- Proficiency in incident investigation and reporting.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong leadership and problem-solving abilities.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Additional certifications in specialized areas such as First Aid/CPR Instructor, Fire Safety, or Environmental Management.
- Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
- Proficiency in safety management software.
- Project management experience related to safety initiatives.
