Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety Management Systems (HSMS) aligned with local and international standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Perform thorough risk assessments for all operational processes, equipment, and work environments.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, conducting root cause analyses and recommending corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver effective safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance activities.
- Advise management on health and safety best practices, regulatory changes, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Promote a strong safety culture through awareness campaigns, communication, and employee engagement.
- Ensure all necessary safety equipment is available, maintained, and correctly used.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external regulatory bodies to ensure ongoing compliance.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in an EHS role within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OHS legislation and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Proven experience in risk assessment, incident investigation, and safety program development.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent.
- Experience working with heavy machinery and chemical safety protocols.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience in environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
- Ability to conduct safety training in both English and local dialects (Patois).
