Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly dedicated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to spearhead and manage all facets of occupational health and safety across our vibrant industrial estate located in Buff Bay, Portland. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety Management Systems (HSMS) in line with local and international standards, including ISO 45001.
- Conduct regular, meticulous site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to proactively identify potential hazards, thoroughly assess risks, and recommend decisive corrective and preventive actions.
- Lead detailed investigations into all accidents, incidents, and near misses, meticulously identify root causes, and implement robust preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
- Ensure unwavering compliance with all Jamaican occupational safety and health regulations and pertinent company policies, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legislative changes.
- Design and deliver compelling, engaging safety training programs for all employees, contractors, and new hires, ensuring understanding and adherence.
- Prepare and maintain accurate, detailed H&S records, reports, and documentation for internal review, management reporting, and external regulatory bodies.
- Provide expert H&S advice and guidance to management on emerging safety issues, legislative updates, and evolving best practices within the industrial sector.
- Strategically plan and execute emergency response procedures, conduct regular drills, and lead crisis management efforts effectively.
- Champion a strong, proactive safety culture through innovative awareness campaigns, practical toolbox talks, and continuous, positive engagement with all staff.
- Oversee the proper selection, use, maintenance, and inspection of personal protective equipment (PPE) across all site operations.
- Collaborate seamlessly with operational, engineering, and HR teams to integrate safety requirements into all work processes, project planning, and equipment acquisition.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Health & Safety Officer, specifically within a dynamic industrial or manufacturing estate environment.
- In-depth and current knowledge of Jamaican occupational safety and health regulations, codes of practice, and relevant industry standards.
- Strong practical understanding of risk assessment methodologies, hazard identification, and effective control measure implementation.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing and engaging diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to design and deliver impactful safety training and conduct engaging toolbox talks.
- Proficiency in incident investigation techniques and root cause analysis, with a track record of implementing effective corrective actions.
- Superior organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Ability to work autonomously, demonstrate initiative, and function effectively as a key member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- Possession of a NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or an equivalent, internationally recognized H&S qualification.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or another equivalent professional certification.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
- Demonstrable experience with the implementation and maintenance of ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems).
