Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to lead our safety initiatives within a bustling industrial estate in Washington Gardens, Kingston. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and workplace inspections across the industrial estate to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
- Lead and facilitate safety training programs and workshops for all employees, contractors, and visitors, fostering a proactive safety culture.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventative actions.
- Ensure strict adherence to relevant Jamaican Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation and other applicable industry regulations.
- Manage and maintain accurate H&S records, documentation, and reporting systems, including incident logs, inspection reports, and training records.
- Advise management on safety-related matters, suggesting improvements and best practices to enhance overall safety performance.
- Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and availability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Develop and implement emergency response plans, conducting drills and ensuring readiness for various scenarios.
- Collaborate with departmental managers and external stakeholders to promote consistent safety standards and practices.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in an Occupational Health & Safety role, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OSH Act and regulations, as well as international safety standards.
- Proven ability to conduct thorough risk assessments, hazard analyses, and incident investigations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage at all levels.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with proficiency in record-keeping and reporting.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong problem-solving capabilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with H&S management software/tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Recognized professional safety certification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA).
- Experience managing H&S in a multi-tenant or diverse industrial estate setting.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
