Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our professional team, dedicated to upholding the highest standards of occupational health and safety within our extensive industrial estate in Papine, Kingston. As our Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in safeguarding the well-being of hundreds of employees and visitors daily. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with local regulations and international best practices.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments across the industrial estate to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective and preventative actions.
- Deliver engaging and effective health and safety training programs for employees, contractors, and tenants.
- Manage and maintain accurate H&S documentation, records, and reporting for internal review and regulatory submission.
- Advise management and tenants on H&S matters, promoting a proactive safety culture and recommending improvements.
- Ensure all plant, machinery, and equipment on the estate comply with safety standards.
- Coordinate with emergency services and internal teams for effective emergency preparedness and response planning.
- Stay updated with new legislation and industry standards related to occupational health and safety.
- Oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or facilities management setting.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OHS regulations and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Strong ability to conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to engage diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and H&S management software.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to safety management.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent certification.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
