Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer to join our dynamic team, focusing specifically on an industrial estate environment in Rockfort, Kingston. This professional role is crucial for ensuring the highest standards of occupational health and safety across all operations within the designated industrial area. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring robust safety programs that comply with local regulations and international best practices. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with national regulations (e.g., OSHA, Factories Act) and international standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Organize and deliver health and safety training programs for employees and contractors on various topics including emergency response, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Prepare and maintain detailed records of safety inspections, incident reports, training activities, and compliance documentation.
- Advise management on health and safety matters, including legislative changes, emerging risks, and best practices.
- Collaborate with departmental managers to integrate safety considerations into operational planning and decision-making.
- Manage the implementation and effectiveness of emergency response plans, including fire drills and evacuation procedures.
- Ensure appropriate first aid provisions and supplies are available and accessible across the industrial estate.
- Promote a positive safety culture through effective communication, visible leadership, and employee engagement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of Jamaican occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.
- Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent recognized safety qualification.
- Experience with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Valid driver's license.
