Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly competent and proactive Health & Safety Officer to lead and manage occupational health and safety initiatives within a dynamic industrial estate environment in Old Harbour Bay, Old Harbour. This professional role is critical in fostering a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with local and international H&S regulations, and protecting our employees, contractors, and visitors. You will be instrumental in identifying potential hazards, conducting thorough risk assessments, implementing preventative measures, and overseeing emergency preparedness and response plans across diverse industrial operations. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with Jamaican regulations and international best practices.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Perform detailed risk assessments for various industrial processes and activities, proposing and implementing effective control measures.
  • Lead incident investigations, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
  • Deliver engaging H&S training programs to employees, contractors, and new hires.
  • Manage and maintain accurate H&S records, including incident reports, training logs, and inspection findings.
  • Advise management on H&S compliance, emerging risks, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and present regular H&S performance reports to management.
  • Oversee emergency preparedness plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and external safety consultants as required.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through communication, engagement, and awareness campaigns.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OSH (Occupational Safety and Health) legislation and regulations.
  • Proficiency in conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent internationally recognized safety qualification.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Familiarity with industrial machinery and operational safety protocols.
  • Knowledge of construction safety standards.
