Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety Officer – Industrial Estate (Professional) to join our team in Gordon Town, St. Andrew. This pivotal role is essential for ensuring the robust implementation and continuous improvement of our occupational health and safety management systems across our various industrial operations within the region. The successful candidate will be a proactive leader, deeply committed to fostering a zero-harm culture, and possess a comprehensive understanding of local and international H&S regulations pertinent to industrial environments. You will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and enforcing health and safety programs, conducting risk assessments, investigating incidents, and providing expert guidance to management and staff. This role demands a professional who can operate independently while collaborating effectively with various departments to ensure all industrial processes adhere to the highest safety standards, protecting our people, property, and the environment. You will be instrumental in driving compliance, conducting training, and promoting a proactive safety mindset throughout our dynamic industrial settings. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor occupational health and safety policies and procedures in line with national and international standards (e.g., OSHA, local OSH Act).
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits of industrial facilities to identify potential hazards, non-compliance issues, and areas for improvement.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and recommend corrective and preventative actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Ensure all safety equipment is properly maintained, inspected, and readily available for use.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed H&S records, reports, and documentation for regulatory compliance and internal reporting.
  • Advise management on H&S best practices, emerging risks, and legislative changes.
  • Manage waste disposal and environmental compliance aspects within the industrial estate.
  • Coordinate emergency response plans, drills, and crisis management procedures.
  • Promote a positive safety culture through effective communication, engagement, and recognition programs.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in occupational health and safety management within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OSH legislation and international safety standards.
  • Strong risk assessment, hazard identification, and incident investigation skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to conduct effective safety training and awareness sessions.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making capabilities under pressure.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely, or equivalent professional safety certification.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 or other integrated management systems.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience in a multi-site or large-scale industrial operation.
