Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health & Safety Officer (Professional) to join one of our esteemed industrial clients located within the dynamic Greendale, Spanish Town industrial estate. This pivotal role requires a seasoned professional committed to fostering an exemplary safety culture and ensuring strict adherence to occupational health and safety regulations. As a Health & Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in safeguarding the well-being of all personnel and protecting company assets, operating within a complex industrial environment.

Your expertise will be critical in developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive health and safety programs tailored to the unique challenges of an industrial setting. You will conduct regular site inspections, identify potential hazards, and proactively implement preventative measures to mitigate risks. This position demands a proactive approach to safety management, continuous improvement initiatives, and the ability to effectively communicate safety protocols to diverse teams, from senior management to front-line workers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust occupational health and safety (OHS) programs and policies in alignment with local regulations and international best practices.
  • Conduct regular and thorough site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards, unsafe conditions, and non-compliance, proposing corrective and preventative actions.
  • Lead and facilitate comprehensive health and safety training sessions for all employees, contractors, and visitors, covering topics such as hazard recognition, emergency response, and safe work procedures.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, near misses, and occupational illnesses, determining root causes and recommending effective measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of all safety-related data, maintaining detailed records and preparing reports for management and regulatory bodies.
  • Oversee the proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials, ensuring compliance with environmental and safety standards.
  • Manage emergency preparedness plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures, conducting regular drills and updates.
  • Collaborate with departmental managers and external stakeholders to promote a strong safety culture and continuous improvement in OHS performance.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OHS regulations and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for risk assessment and incident investigation.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to engage and influence all levels of staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or Diploma, or equivalent internationally recognized safety qualification.
  • Experience with safety management systems implementation and auditing.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems.
