Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust occupational health and safety (OHS) programs and policies in alignment with local regulations and international best practices.
- Conduct regular and thorough site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards, unsafe conditions, and non-compliance, proposing corrective and preventative actions.
- Lead and facilitate comprehensive health and safety training sessions for all employees, contractors, and visitors, covering topics such as hazard recognition, emergency response, and safe work procedures.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, near misses, and occupational illnesses, determining root causes and recommending effective measures to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of all safety-related data, maintaining detailed records and preparing reports for management and regulatory bodies.
- Oversee the proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials, ensuring compliance with environmental and safety standards.
- Manage emergency preparedness plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures, conducting regular drills and updates.
- Collaborate with departmental managers and external stakeholders to promote a strong safety culture and continuous improvement in OHS performance.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican OHS regulations and international safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for risk assessment and incident investigation.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to engage and influence all levels of staff.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or Diploma, or equivalent internationally recognized safety qualification.
- Experience with safety management systems implementation and auditing.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of environmental management systems.
